SPEAKER TOUR

BARCELONA, GIRONA, PERPIGNAN, GENEVA, MELENDUGNO, 2018

In summer 2018, the Gastivists collaborated on the United Beyond Gas Tour, which invited an indigenous spokesperson from Mexico fighting gas on a speakers’ tour across Europe.

We are incredibly thankful for the time and wisdom that Oliveria Montes shared with us. Oliveria is spokesperson of the Consejo Regional de Pueblos Originarios en Defensa del Territorio Puebla y Hidalgo, a council representing 40 indigenous communities of Puebla and Hidalgo in Mexico. They are threatened by the construction of the Tula-Tuxpan pipeline proposed by Canadian company TransCanada and its Italian partner Bonatti.

During three weeks, we hosted a series of public events, workshops, actions and advocacy meetings. The tour stopped in Barcelona, Perpignan and Girona where the MidCat pipeline was being planned, in Geneva to meet with the UN special rapporteurs on Human Rights and Indigenous Rights, and in Melendugno to connect with the community resisting the TAP pipeline.
